Ferguson Lake Nature Reserve
Located just off North Kelly Road on Ferguson Lake Road this nature reserve is situated on 18.4 hectares and includes a unique 3km trail system surrounding a small lake. The Ferguson Lake Nature Reserve is an excellent place to spend the day and learn local history. A detailed map of the Nature Reserve is available in PDF format along with directions to the Nature Reserve from Hwy 97N. Pack a lunch, bring along your fishing rod and enjoy a day at the lake!

Part of this unique trail system is suspended on a plank style walk way over the lake and provides an excellent opportunity to look at various plant and aquatic life. The interpretive trail signage also provides information on history of the nature reserve and wildlife known to live in the area.
Park History
In June 1919, a 120 acre parcel of land was acquired by William Ferguson, who built a trapping cabin by the lake. A small homestead was later built by Paul Kuleven in 1928. Following WWII a small bush mill was developed and in 1946 Ivor Killey, a Prince George businessman purchased the timber around Ferguson Lake. The area was mainly horse logged, utilizing White Spruce and Douglas Fir. By 1950 the era of horse logging was ending in this region, as horses were replaced by stronger and faster mechanized vehicles. The Ferguson Lake Nature Reserve that we enjoy today has been made possible by the Ivor/Killey families, Nature Trust of BC, Employment and Immigration Canada and the City of Prince George.
What’s New?
In the fall of 2007 the Spruce City Wildlife Association released 2200 rainbow trout into Ferguson Lake. The club reared the fish at its hatchery and intends to promote this area as a fishery for anglers and educators. There are also plans to construct a new dock in the Spring of 2008. - respect that fishing is permitted but motors are not permitted on the lake
- pets must be kept on a leash at all times
- horses and motorized vehicles are not permitted
