Memorial Park Cemetery
"... those who operate at all levels of the Memorial Park Cemetery must strive, as the founding principle, to treat an interment right and/or memorialization sale, as a tribute to a life lived and as a final gift to the family and the family's children of the future ... " author unknown

The Memorial Park Cemetery is situated on 50 pristine hectares in the heart of Prince George. Current interment options include traditional burials for both human and cremated remains, and the Mausoleum where the choice of crypt for full burial or a niche for cremations are available. Future burial options will include outdoor columbaria, ossuary and scattering gardens, a cremated remains only section, as well as an environmentally conscious green burial section. New Cemetery Regulations
In British Columbia, cemeteries are strictly regulated by the Cremation, Interment and Funeral Services Act, and The Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act. On June 9, 2008, The City of Prince George adopted Cemetery Bylaw No.8046, 2008. The Prince George Memorial Park Cemetery understands and respects the need for all families to show respect and love for those interred in our Memorial Park through the placement of floral offerings at the grave site.
To compliment this, the City of Prince George has also adopted the Cemetery Adornment Placement and Removal Policy. Non-compliant adornments now include: benches, fences, rocks, shrubs and trees. Please refer to the above mentioned bylaw and policy for complete information.
Historical Burial Information
DICK CORLESS FUNERAL RECORDS
Richard (Dick) Corless came to Prince George in 1913 from England, where upon he became an undertaker and a car dealer. He was operating his funeral home business, located at the corner of Quebec and Fourth Avenue in Prince George. All of the funerals that he performed were recorded in a ledger, including deaths of the influenza pandemic in 1918. Mr Corless transferred his business to Assman’s Funeral home in 1931, and his ledger remained with a family member who donated it to the B.C Archives. The Prince George Genealogical Society became aware of its existence, and a member viewed it in the BC Archives in Victoria. Because of its fragile condition it was not suitable for photo copying. The BC Archives considered that it might be eligible for micro filming, they did not have funding for this work. They were not prepared to consider transferring it to Prince George at that time.
In 2007 the UNBC obtained their Class A Certification as an Archive, so the Prince George Genealogical Society supported them in an application for the ledger’s transfer to Prince George. BC Archives, realizing the importance of the ledger to the history of Prince George, agreed to its transfer. UNBC Archives were able to digitally photograph all of the pages, and these images were lent to the Prince George Genealogical Society for transcription. This work was carried out by Society members in a six week period in the summer of 2008.
These records include information about each funeral, including the date and place of death and burial, as well as the cause of death, birthday and/or age, of the person and the nationality of foreign born persons. For the earlier events the burial location details supplements that included in the cemetery records.
The City of Prince George is grateful to the Prince George Genealogical Society for their efforts in enabling the residents of our city such valuable historic information.
